Areas of Specialty

I specialize in helping men and women in recovery overcome anxiety and fear in relationships.

You've endured pain and chaos in relationships throughout your life, and no matter how hard you try, you just can't seem to move past it. You find yourself fearful that your partner will leave you, even if you know the relationship is unhealthy.

Your fear of rejection or abandonment is so great that at times, you may act out in self-destructive ways to prevent your partner from getting too close. You want more but are afraid to have more all at the same time.

You find yourself experiencing...
  • Anxiety, fear, or panic

  • Intense anger outbursts

  • Depression or crying spells

  • Even paranoia

You feel stuck.

Let me help.

Alyssa Tonking, LPC

My name is Alyssa Tonking and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Maricopa, Arizona. I specialize in working with insightful adults who are looking to better understand how their past experiences impact their present thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. If you have found yourself repeating patterns in your life that are not serving you or are preventing you from reaching your goals, I’m here to tell you that things can be different - better - than they are today, and I’d love to help you achieve your definition of “better”.

I believe in second chances, which is why I’m also an ADOT and DHS approved provider for a variety of court ordered services for substance abuse and DUI charges.

Sometimes we find ourselves stuck in behavioral patterns, whether it be in addiction, unstable relationships, or self-destructive behaviors, and can’t quite figure out how to break the cycle. It’s often not until we build insight around how our past is still present, that we’re able to break free from it. We can do this in a number of ways, and some of my favorite approaches include targeting specific events that have become intrusive memories through EMDR, or targeting negative beliefs you hold about yourself that are not 100% true through CBT.

Whatever your unique challenge or experience, I’m here to help you clear the past so you can get on with the present. Let this be your turning point to a more peaceful life.

QUALIFICATIONS

It's no secret that Maricopa has limited resources, and mental health services are no exception! That's why I've decided to start my own practice to provide support to the community, those needing help with court ordered treatment, and others working towards long term sobriety and whole person mental health and wellness.

If you'd like to know more about my background and education, feel free to check out the information provided below! As you'll see in my educational history, my life and career path took a hard turn due to some unforeseeable circumstances and life challenges, paired with a cross-country move. Sometimes our lives don't go as planned, but that doesn't mean that we can't end up exactly where we were meant to be!
