Trauma Healing Services

"Trauma" is a word that is often understood as a single event in your life that had a significant negative impact on you, such as abuse, assault, or a car accident. While these experiences certainly are traumatic, trauma can also result from broken relationships, mistreatment from loved ones, or compounding experiences over time. With this understanding of trauma, we can see how nearly everyone likely has experienced some form of trauma that has shaped who they are and how they view and interact with the world.

What is EMDR?

EMDR is a specialized form of therapy designed to target and treat intrusive thoughts, memories, and body sensations.

What we know about trauma is that your body stores it at the deepest levels, all the way down to your cells! This means that sometimes, your physical body experiences trauma responses to sensations such as touch, smell, or sounds, even if your mind doesn't understand the reaction. Because of this, healing from trauma (emotional, physical, and sexual) can feel like a moving target, but EMDR works differently. It uses your mind in the present moment, your memories from the past, your emotions, AND your physical body sensations to free you from the bondage of your past.
